Question 1-Why is Mrs. Pumpfrey worried about Tricky?

Answer: Mrs. Pumphrey is worried and shocked about Tricki. It has become hugely fat. It looks like a bloated sausage. Its eyes are blood red and rheumy. Its tongue lolls down its jaws. he refused to eat food and started vomiting. She feels that she is suffering from a serious health problem like malnutrition.

Question 2. What does she do to help him ? Is she wise in this ?

Answer:  To improve her condition, Mrs. Pumpfrey starts giving her

 additional snacks like malt, cod-liver oil and horlicks in addition to

 her main meal. She continues to satisfy her sweet tooth with cream

 cakes and chocolates. She doesn't even give him any exercise 

  considering his apathy. It is not wise for him to do so because

 feeding Tricky food is making his condition worse instead of

 improving. This has made him very fat and lazy. And when it 

doesn't improve, she immediately calls Mr. Harriet for a trick. Mr

 Harriet is a Veterinarian. He is smart in this. No one can know about animals except a veterinarian.


Question 3. Who does “I” refer to in this story ?

Answer:  I" in this story refers to the vet, James Heriot.

Question 4. -Is the narrator as rich as Tricki’s mistress ?

Answer -No, the narrator is not as rich as Tricky's mistress Mrs. Pumpfrey. We can say this because the narrator is fascinated by how much Mrs Pumpfrey spends on the well being and maintenance of her pet. He is unusually surprised by the rich items sent to Tricky, as he cannot afford them for himself.

Question 4.Is the narrator as wealthy as Tricky's mistress?

Answer:No, the narrator is not as rich as Tricky's mistress Mrs. Pumpfree. We can say this because the narrator is fascinated by how much Mrs Pumpfrey spends on the well being and maintenance of her pet. Question 5. -How does he treat the dog ?


Answer He takes the dog Tricky in for his surgery.

 There he does not give her much food. He reduces

 her food intake and keeps her under strict

 observation for the initial days in the hospital.

 Tricky changes at the end of the second day. It starts

 showing some interest in the surroundings. On the

 third day it whispers. He gradually increases Tricky's

 diet and frees her up for physical activities to improve

 her health.

Question 6. -Why is he tempted to keep Tricki on as a permanent guest ? 

 Answer - Mr. Harriet is tempted to take on Tricky as a permanent guest. This was because Mrs. Pumpfrey began sending two dozen fresh eggs at a time. Mr. Heriot's staff ate these eggs. There were bottles of wine etc. It was actually a great thing for him. Mr. Harriet doesn't give these to Tricky. He is enjoying good food and wine in the name of Tricky. He doesn't want to lose the sparkling flow of fresh eggs, wine, and brandy .

Question 7- Why does Mrs. Pumphrey think the dog’s recovery is “a triumph of surgery” ?

Answer: She thinks so because it is surgery, that is, a hospital. This has fixed the trick. His disease has been cured by his stay in surgery.

. He believed that Tricky's chances of recovery were slim and that he needed immediate medical attention. Thus, his resurrection without any medicinal treatment was a great achievement according to him.
