Context - In this article an introduction to the aged crofter has been given.
Explanation- An old man who was living alone gave porridge and tobacco to the hidden guest and the old man was actually a gentleman. He told the guest that earlier he was a crofter Ramsjo Ironworks and at that time, he was living in prosperity as he worked the land. Presently, he was too old to work and had a cow which gave him bread and butter. Crofter used to call his cow 'Bossy' and that boss was not normal for him. She used to give enough milk for the livelihood of the old man. He used to sell that milk and the month's loss he received thirty kronor in payment. She was everything to him.

Context - In this passage the poet has said that about the
pathetic condition of the pedestrian trapped in this forest.
Explanation- The poet has said in this passage about the
time of December. It was evening and the forest was getting dark and the danger
was increasing proportionately. And the situation only added to the peddler's
frustration and negativity. The peddler gets frustrated and feels down on the
ground. He was so tired that he could not even move a little and was thinking
of hiding near death. But at the same time, he heard a hard and regular stroke
of a metal. He understood the source. With all his might, he got up and thought
that this sound was coming from some iron mill nearby and surely there would be
people around. At last the peddler gathered all his strength, got up and
started moving in the direction of the sound he heard.

Context – This paragraph depicts the scene inside the fort and the arrival of a visitor.
Explanation - In the forge the blacksmith was busy with his work with his apprentice and the peddler was lying freely. The Ironmaster had recently returned from the forge and it was hardly half an hour that the sound of the wheels of the cart was heard outside the forge. A new visitor, the Ironmaster, had sent his daughter, apparently hoping that she would have a better power of persuasion than herself.
In fact, the Ironmaster failed to persuade the peddler to come home, so he sent his daughter, Edla, to persuade an old acquaintance to come home.

Context - This paragraph refers to Ironmaster's clear understanding of the peddler.
Explanation- The peddler came to the breakfast table in the morning for breakfast. He was well groomed, bathed and rescued by the servant, he was given the Ironmaster's suit to wear, but seeing him, the Ironmaster was not pleased. He even got angry, pulled his forehead and it was because of his own fault. When he visited the forge last night, he made a mistake himself, mistaking the stranger that his old acquaintance was in the dim light of the furnace. But that morning, when the peddler stood in front of him in broad daylight, the Ironmaster could do no wrong and recognized that the man was a stranger.

Context- This paragraph describes the time passing schedule of the peddler.
Explanation - When Edla used to stay at the shopkeeper's house in his house, that seller used to celebrate Christmas by sleeping with presents all the time. The stranger spends most of his time sleeping. In the guest room, he lay on the couch at the same stretch for the entire morning. At noon, he woke up and offered his share of Christmas and after that he went to sleep again. He slept again and again after eating. His sleep movements were unusual and it seemed that he may not have slept quietly and safely for many years, as with everything in Edla's house, he felt safe and sound.
6- Honoured and noble miss ……. for poor wanderers .

Context
- This paragraph describes Peddler's 'obvious feeling for Miss Edla
Willmanson'.
Explanation- In his letter to Miss Edla Wilmanson, Peddler calls a respected and noble Miss. He further writes that she has been very nice to him all the time and treats him as a genuine caption, so he wants to be nice to her too. He doesn't want to cheat on her. He doesn't want to embarrass Edla by acting as a thief on that auspicious occasion of Christmas. He demands that money be returned to the old man on the side of the road - the man with the money bag hanging on the window frame, as fodder for poor wanderers like him.
