Summary of the story

This is the story of a father who narrates to a small girl. Jack, a father, tells his young daughter the story of a small creature named Roger Skunk. He says that Roger is stinky. That's why all the other small animals run away. This always makes him sad. He takes his problem and goes to the wise owl. Owl asks him to go to the magician. According to the wishes of the magician Roger makes it fragrant like roses, now those small animals who used to run away enjoy living near them. Roger is overjoyed. But his mother is surprised to find her son smelling different from skunk creatures. She goes with him to the magician and makes her son smelly again. Roger agrees with his mother's words. Who doesn't agree at the end of the story. She insists on her father to end the story in a different way, she wants the magician to attack the foolish skunk mother. This story also tells the difference between an adult and a child's thinking towards life.

The story revolves around Jack, who is the father of two children – Joan (Joe) and Bobby. His wife Claire is carrying their third child. Jack had a habit of telling a story to his daughter Joe every evening and taking naps on Saturday afternoons. This time when he was telling her a story, she interrupts him and asks him questions whenever she feels that the things being told are not true. So Jack finds himself fine now and doesn't know how to solve Joe's questions. Parents feel that children should do or think what they are told. They should believe everything their parents told them. But is this the right attitude. This moral question is raised by the story and is left to the reader to decide what needs to be done.
