Introduction to the lesson

The essay, "Poets and Pancakes" is a quote from the book "My Years with Boss" by Asokmitran. Boss SS. Vasan, who founded Gemini Studio, produced many films that influenced every aspect of Indian life. Huh. There were two important ones in Gemini Studio's production department, namely the story department and the makeup department. Gemini's makeup department was on top of the building. Makeup ingredients were bought in bulk. Pancake was the brand name of the makeup ingredients. The film was initially shot indoors. Only five percent of the shootings were shouted out. Subbu was an important figure in the golden years of Gemini
Established in 1940, for nearly thirty years, Mithun Studios in Madras (Chennai) was one of India's leading and influential film-making organizations. Talented and talented S.S. Founded by Vasan, it had over 600 people and produced films for Tamil Nadu and other southern Indian states. Pancake was the makeup material used by Gemini  Studio. Sahitya Akademi Award winning Tamil writer Asokamitran worked for Gemini Studios from 1952 to 1966. He later reminisced about 'My Years with Boss' in the book.

Summary of the lesson
Ashokamitran (22 September 1931–23 March 2017) was a noted Tamil writer and Sahitya Akademi winner. He was one of the few writers who wrote fluently in both Tamil and English. In his career spanning six decades, he wrote 8 novels, 20 novels and hundreds of short stories on various issues. In this lesson he described his years at Gemini Studios. Pancake was the brand name for makeup ingredients that Gemini Studios bought in bulk. The makeup department on top of a building was a group of different people. The makeup room looked like a hair cutting salon. The actor had to bear the terrible heat of the lamp. Men from different parts of India worked in the makeup department. Senior did the makeup for the lead actor and actress. Junior did make-up for the junior actor. The office boy decorated the player playing the game of the crowd. The Gemini studio also had an excellent mess that supplied good coffee. In the end the author describes the journey of an English poet whom no one knew about as he spoke in the studio. The letter writer found out it was Stephen Spender.

Context - This paragraph describes the hierarchy in the makeup department of Gemini Studios.
Explanation This Gemini studio had an important department called the makeup department. In that department a strict hierarchy was followed among the members of the department. The main make-up man used to do the makeup of the lead actor and actress, in fact they were unattractive with excess makeup. The senior assist of the main make-up man created the second protagonist without the heroines and finalized the junior assistant lead comedian and the series went on like that. Apart from these, many more supporting actors and actresses are within reach, portrayed by Office Boy. It's funny that there was even an office boy in the makeup department of Gemini Studios. There was a day when crowd shoots were organized, at that time, the office boy could be seen mixing paints, pancakes in a large pot and rapidly painting the faces of the crowd actors and actresses on the faces of the crowd players.

Explanation – A very talented actress, whose temperament is above average, comes to Gemini Studio, she gets furious on the set. Everyone was amazed and there a lawyer in the story department started recording without his notice and permission. The actress undoubtedly said something absurd in anger, but there was nothing noticeable and serious about the producer, but when she heard the recording, she was dumbfounded, shocked and being silenced . . She was a girl from the rural area and did not have much experience of the practical world which required a gentlemanly and worth considering and found herself trapped in such an awkward circumstance. And that was the last day of her original and natural character and after that, she never recovered from that heart-frozen terror. And unfortunately, she was never seen acting again and her illustrious acting career was reported and ended that day.

4- When Frank Buchman 's -------------- professional manner

Explanation At Gemini Studios, a detachment called the Moral Re-Ordnance Army, once led by Frank Buchman, arrives. It was a group of about two hundred skilled artists. The Army visited Madras in 1952 and was perhaps best received at Gemini Studios in the entire country. That group was also called the International Circus but satirically they were not skilled in gymnastic swing and , when it came to animals, they came into contact only at the dinner table. But nonetheless, he performed two plays on the stage of Gemini Studio in the most professional manner that left an everlasting impact on the audience.

Explanation – After a long time of news, finally, at four o'clock in the afternoon, the poet, who was also the editor, arrived at the Gemini studio. He was a tall man speaking fluent English, with a serious character and a stranger to everyone. Facing the heavy wind and the sound of six pedestal fans on stage, Boss Mr. Vasan spoke. The guest was also unknown to the owner. Boss gave a speech related to the words freedom and democracy. Then came the poet's turn. The audience was astounded, astonished and silently speechless and the poet could not address them, such a stunned crowd. The crowd was ignorant and ignorant about the foreign language English and hence they could not understand. His pronunciation was also a hindrance. After an hour, the poet stopped and all the spectators went away in amazement.

Answer- The example used by the author to point out human infirmities certainly serves to intersect the piece. The author has used gentle humour to present the flair and abnormality and the characteristic is seen when no direct bitter comment is received by anyone. For example, the office boy whose literary talent was being wasted. Subbu's versatility and skill were also being criticized. The author commented that Subbu had worked forever but not at all for him. Subbu Solution Finding Talent was also entertaining. A legal counsel commented in a way that ended the career of an actress. This gang of nationally integrated makeup men can transform an ant decent looking man into a terrifying scarlet monster with the help of a truckload of pancakes and many other locally made potions and lotions. I think girls and boys needed to look presentable in film to look good in set and studio lights.

Answer- Kothamangalam Subbu was considered number 2 in Gemini studio as Subbu was always seen with the boss and has multitalent and many qualities. He was a man of cheerful disposition, a loyal hand to the boss, a man who had the solution to almost every problem, Mr. Vasan, the boss's advisor. He used to manage all the affairs in the owner's absence. Subbu could never do things on his own, but could do all his creativity for the benefit of his theory. He was the tailor to make the film and it must have been so easy for Subbu to make the film. He gave direction and definition to Mithun Studio during its golden years. When the producer says that he does not know how to do scenes, Subbu will come out in four ways. Even if the makers are skeptical, Subbu will come up with fourteen more options in a minute.

Question 3- How does the author describe the incongruity  of an English poet addressing the audience at Gemini studios .?

 Answer - The Gemini Studios audience consisted of the most simple of Tamil-speaking people. He was never given the opportunity and opportunity to arouse interest in English poetry. An English poet, Stephen Spender, arrived at the Gemini studio at the invitation of Mr. Vasan. He gave his lecture in front of a Tamil audience, who were not so familiar with the foreign language, English. Apart from this, the pronunciation of the poet was provincial. He was a regular reader of various books and bought literature during his difficult times. He used the comic ladder in his writing. His belief is that writing prose is not and should not be a persuasion of a genius. If his writings are rejected, it doesn't disappoint him. He immediately began making a fresh copy of the long prose piece and sent it to another editorIn addition, he was inclined to literary articles of all kinds.
